Call of Dragons S5: My 4 Ultimate Archer Marches & Builds Explained

Kicking Off Season 5: Challenges, Goals, and March Performance

Season of Strife 5 has officially begun, and as an archer main, it's time to dive into open field content once again. Last season, I earned over 12 million merits using tier 4 troops—something I'm aiming to match or exceed this season. The catch? We're up against elite players from top alliances, including ACE and KK. That means more intense fights, smarter decisions, and better marching setups.

For this season, I've optimized four specific archer marches that suit different situations on the field. These setups blend damage output, survivability, utility, and team support—all tailored for open field dominance in Call of Dragons.

Kinara + Niko: Classic Control and Defense Break

One of my longest-running and most reliable pairs is Kinara and Niko. Though both are early-generation heroes, their synergy still holds up incredibly well, especially when spec'd for control and debuffs. I'm running them on a build focused on silence and defense reduction, which is perfect for disrupting infantry and mage legions.

Even with a level 1 Rattlespear artifact, I'm seeing solid performance thanks to its defense penetration feature. Kinara is my first awakened hero, while Niko is at a respectable 5355 skill level. Combined, they offer crowd control and suppression that's invaluable in the chaos of open field PvP.

War Pet Strategy: Snowpeak Croak as the Secret Weapon

Supporting Kinara and Niko is Snowpeak Croak—my first fully leveled 3-star War Pet with strong offensive synergy. While this hero pair handles control, Croak deals out consistent damage through its advanced talent tree. In many matches, this pet actually out-damages the heroes themselves.

Though I could swap its Fatal Bite for an agility-based Blood Drawer, I'm satisfied with the current setup. The combination of Advanced Concentration and three-star Snowpeak gives me a reliable offensive edge in prolonged fights, especially when breaking down tanky infantry.

Indis + Tara: Tanky Support With Healing and Buff Utility

Next up is a hero pair that may seem unusual, but they’ve proven indispensable for me—Indis and Tara. Built for healing and survivability, this pair acts like a mobile support unit that soaks up damage while buffing nearby allies.

With Wyverns as their troop type, I gain more health and defense than with standard archers. Their talents are focused on overall health and sustain. Tara, being an epic hero, is easy to awaken and upgrade, making this march accessible for F2P and low-spenders.

Artifact Build for Support: The Fang of Ashkari

I’ve equipped this march with the Fang of Ashkari, a highly defensive artifact that enhances tankiness. While many might default to damage-focused gear, I prefer this setup to keep Indis and Tara alive longer and more useful as an off-tank with strong AOE buffs and heals.

The march benefits from Indis’s legion capacity boost and healing buffs, plus Tara’s resourceful kit. For players seeking a balanced, high-utility march, this combo is extremely reliable in Call of Dragons Season 5.

Maggat + Zida: Pure Damage with Incredible Sustain

This pairing is hands down the strongest archer duo in the game. Maggat and Zida deliver unmatched damage while also providing insane levels of healing and survivability. If you’re an archer main and can only build one premium PvP march, this should be your go-to.

With Zida awakened and Maggat skilled to 5555, this team excels not just in open field fights but also in PvE events and behemoth battles. Their synergy allows for constant healing and burst damage, making them extremely difficult to bring down even in extended engagements.

Galded Crossbow: Speed and Damage All in One

The Galded Crossbow is my artifact of choice for this march. While the Herof of Kamasi is a decent alternative, the crossbow's march speed bonus is a literal lifesaver. It lets me reposition quickly, chase down weakened legions, and escape cavalry flanks.

The artifact’s Glittering Bolt effect also bypasses enemy HP thresholds and boosts damage output. This combo has saved me countless times in open field brawls, proving that mobility can be just as vital as raw power.

Shadow Manticore War Pet: Boosting DPS and Healing

To amplify the strength of Maggat and Zida, I use the Shadow Manticore—a war pet built with Advanced Barbarism and Chain Strike Synergy. It adds healing, burst damage, and crit rate buffs to an already lethal combo. This war pet alone has pushed my march’s performance above many T5 players.

Its three-star barbarism synergy brings in even more value with area damage and regen. If you're building a competitive archer setup, this pet is well worth the investment for the Call of Dragons S5 meta.

Musang + Thea: Debuffing Healers and Teamwide Recovery

My fourth march features a more experimental setup: Musang with Thea. This pairing is underrated but offers both healing and enemy debuffing. Musang’s unique ability to reduce healing received by 20% is a powerful counter to popular sustain-heavy hero pairs.

Together, they heal nearby allies and increase damage through Healer Marks—which stack up and raise DPS by up to 9%. This makes them great in both defensive and offensive strategies, especially during big alliance wars.

Artifact Strategy: Herof of Kamasi + Wyvern Synergy

Although I don't have the Wiz of the Sanctus artifact yet (which is ideal for this combo), I’m currently using Herof of Kamasi for its defensive boost. Combined with Wyverns, which scale well with Thea’s kit, this march acts as both a backline healer and buff distributor.

Having all flying units also maximizes the effectiveness of Thea’s talents. The setup may be unconventional, but I’m seeing promising results in large skirmishes and resource point defenses.

How All Four Marches Work Together in Open Field PvP

Each of my four marches serves a unique purpose:

  • Kinara + Niko: Control and defense shred for slowing down infantry

  • Indis + Tara: Healing, buffs, and tanking for team support

  • Maggat + Zida: Pure damage with high self-sustain to secure kills

  • Musang + Thea: Healing support and debuff counter for enemy sustain

Together, they give me the flexibility to fight against various opponents, from cavalry to mage compositions. These setups have helped me consistently earn over 12 million merits as a tier 4 player, even against tier 5 legions.

Final Thoughts: Optimizing Archer Marches for Season 5

With Season of Strife 5 heating up, building a solid set of open field archer marches is more crucial than ever—especially for tier 4 players aiming to hold their ground against top-tier opponents. Whether you're running crowd control with Kinara and Niko, healing with Indis and Tara, dealing huge DPS with Maggat and Zida, or bringing hybrid support with Musang and Thea, your march composition needs to be flexible, sustainable, and goal-driven.

These four combinations reflect real gameplay experience, with each offering unique strengths depending on battlefield needs. From gear selection and hero skills to war pet optimization and artifact choices, every detail matters. If you’re looking to perform at a high level without needing full tier 5 access, these builds will serve you well in both solo skirmishes and alliance wars.

Keep refining your strategy, testing your builds, and focusing on synergy—not just power. And as always, good luck on the battlefield.
