Recluse’s Remembrance Guide – Elden Ring Nightreign Chapters 2–7 Explained

Introduction

If you're diving into Elden Ring: Nightreign and wondering how to tackle the Recluse’s Remembrance questline, this guide has you covered. From unlocking the early chapters to defeating the Night Aspect boss, we’ll walk you through every step needed to complete this multi-part quest.

The quest spans across several chapters in your journal, requires collecting memory fragments, defeating Night-tainted enemies, and eventually claiming the Recluse Remembrance skin. It’s a story-heavy, slightly cryptic journey—but we’ll keep it simple and clear throughout.

How to Unlock Recluse’s Remembrance (Chapter 2)

To get started, you’ll need to meet one of the following conditions:

  • Defeat a Nightlord, or

  • Complete expeditions as Recluse until you collect Memory Fragments

Once you have enough memory fragments, head into your Journal. If Chapter 2 is unlocked, you’ll see the option to Begin Remembrance—this kicks off the Recluse questline officially.

This part of the quest is mostly dialogue-driven, so no combat just yet.

Speak with Iron Man in the Dining Room

Once you’re in Remembrance mode:

  • Go to the Dining Room area and talk to Iron Man

  • He’ll request an item made from “Night

  • To find it, you need to collect a Night Shard from Night-tainted enemies

The shard can drop from enemies found during any expedition in Lyfeld. Look for a red flag marker—that’s your clue you’ve found the correct target.

🔸 Pro Tip: It’s best to do this on Day 2 or later in an expedition. The Night-tainted Hippopotamus enemy is tough and hits hard.

Once you defeat the Hippopotamus, the Night Shard will drop. At this point, you can:

  • Finish the expedition by defeating the Nightlord

  • Or simply die or exit, as the shard is already secured

Return the Night Shard to Iron Man

Back at the Round Table Hold:

  • Find Iron Man again and show him the Night Shard

  • Choose the first dialogue options to give it to him

  • He’ll say he needs time to study it

After the conversation ends, return to your journal. This completes Chapter 2, and you'll now unlock Recluse’s Chalice, a relic.

How to Start Chapter 4 of Recluse's Remembrance

If Chapter 4 doesn’t show up right away in your journal, you may need to:

  • Play more expeditions

  • Defeat additional Nightlords to gather extra Memory Fragments

Once unlocked, begin the Remembrance for Chapter 4. Then:

  • Look for a note placed near the Expedition Table

  • Read the note to trigger the next step

After that, head to the Round Table Hold, specifically near the Small Jar Bazaar. You’ll find Iron Man standing in a corner.

Ask for Your Night Shard Back

Talk to Iron Man:

  • Keep engaging in dialogue until you get the option to request the Night Shard

  • After a few tries, he’ll return the shard, and it will become a permanent item in your inventory

With the shard back, a new location marker will appear in the Round Table Hold. This marks your next objective.

Find the Marked Bed and Interact with the Scene

Go to the newly marked bedroom area. There’s an odd scene waiting here:

  • One of the beds shows signs that something went wrong

  • Interact with it to trigger a brief dialogue sequence

You’ll show the character the Vestige of Night along with what you discovered, wrapping up Chapter 4. This also unlocks the Vestige of Night relic.

Unlocking Chapter 6: Discover the Imposter

Once Chapter 6 is available in your journal, begin the Remembrance again. This part of the quest doesn't give clear directions, but your objective is to:

"Find the person lurking in the Round Table Hold."

Head to the Sparring Grounds and speak to Iron Man there. At first, nothing seems out of the ordinary. But here’s what you actually need to do:

Attack Iron Man to Reveal the Truth

To progress:

  • Hit Iron Man three times (light attacks work)

  • After the third hit, he will transform into a clone of your character—without your hat

Now you’re talking to a mysterious version of yourself. Continue the conversation:

  • Exhaust all dialogue options

  • The clone will mention “The Mechanical Mania” and say he’s in the Mausoleum

This is your next destination.

Go to the Mausoleum Crypt

From the Small Jar Bazaar, go down the staircase to the crypt (same place used in earlier remembrance quests). Once inside:

  • Head to the back right area

  • You’ll see a dim glow and find the Mechanical Mania—currently inactive

Recalibrate and Talk to Mechanical Mania

When prompted, choose to recalibrate him. He'll revive and:

  • Blame you for what happened (due to the hatless clone)

  • Start a long conversation—just go through each option

Eventually, he’ll mention the witch and then give you a unique relic:

🔹 Boneike Stone – This rare item signals that you’re ready to face the final Nightlord Boss

You’re now locked on Chapter 7, which can’t progress until the final boss is defeated.

Defeating the Night Aspect – Final Chapter of Recluse Remembrance

To unlock the final boss, make sure you’ve:

  • Defeated four unique Nightlords

  • Collected all previous relics including the Boneike Stone

Once these steps are completed, the Night Aspect boss becomes available. Begin your expedition using Recluse and prepare for a challenging fight.

🔸 Tip: This battle is designed with multiplayer in mind. Solo players will face a steep challenge, so team up if possible.

After the Fight: Return to the Round Table Hold

Once you defeat the Night Aspect, you’ll be sent to a grayed-out version of the Round Table Hold. Here's what to do next:

  1. Before approaching the final corpse, go to the right side of the area

  2. Locate the bedroom and listen for the sound of a crying baby

  3. Interact with the baby on the bed to trigger a final sequence

You’ll see a short cinematic, followed by the game credits.

Finishing the Quest and Earning the Skin

After the credits:

  • You’ll return to the Round Table Hold, not in Remembrance mode

  • Go back to the same bed you visited earlier

  • This time, you’ll see the witch standing beside it

When you interact with her, she vanishes, leaving behind her clothes. Interact with the dropped outfit to unlock the final reward:

🧥 Recluse Remembrance Skin – Similar to the default skin, but without the hat

It’s a subtle change, but a fitting reward for finishing one of Nightreign’s most dialogue-heavy and mysterious quests.

Conclusion

The Recluse’s Remembrance questline in Elden Ring: Nightreign is a layered, story-heavy experience that spans multiple journal chapters. From tracking memory fragments to uncovering Night-tainted enemies, retrieving relics, and facing the formidable Night Aspect, every step adds depth to the lore and challenge of the game. Whether you’re chasing collectibles or just love a good story arc, completing this quest rewards you with one of the most unique cosmetic skins in the game.

Make sure to explore each chapter thoroughly, talk to every NPC, and don’t hesitate to replay expeditions to trigger missing chapters. With patience (and ideally, some multiplayer backup), you’ll be able to complete one of Nightreign’s standout questlines.
