Dune Awakening Ornithopter Component Locations: A Comprehensive Guide

Ornithopter Component Locations: A Comprehensive Guide

Building your first Ornithopter in Dune Awakening is a significant milestone. It's one of the most versatile and convenient vehicles in the game, and unlocking it can transform the way you explore and experience the world. However, some of the required components, like Diamondine Dust, Industrial Pumps, and others, can be tricky to locate, especially early on when you're just getting started.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the best spots to gather all the components you need to construct your Ornithopter. Let’s start with the easier materials first.

Easy-to-Obtain Materials

Aluminum is one of the easiest materials to gather early in the game. You can find it all over the first two Tier 4 zones of the Eastern and Western Shield Wall. To begin your collection, head to Pinnacle Station and travel west. As you make your way through the zone, collect aluminum along the way.

Keep in mind that you will need quite a bit of water to process the aluminum ore. Specifically, to turn 272 units of aluminum ore into 296 aluminum ingots, you'll require around 63 liters (or 63,000 milliliters) of water. Fortunately, this isn’t too difficult to obtain. You can use a number of methods:

  • Industrial Deythe Decal Johns: These devices can gather significant amounts of water from dew patches.

  • MarkV Blood Extractor: If you use this tool, you can extract 4.2L of water per enemy’s blood and purify it.

  • Death Still: This is a bit more advanced and might not be accessible if you’re just starting out, but it can be crafted once you obtain the blueprint by completing the trials.

  • Wind Traps: These will passively generate water for you over time, even when you’re offline.

While some of these methods are more advanced, they provide plenty of options, especially for later stages of the game.

Common Components: Servox, Capacitors, and More

You will likely already have a good stockpile of advanced servox and particle capacitors from your earlier adventures, particularly if you've been running testing stations. Don’t worry about running out of these — they should be in abundance by the time you start gathering Ornithopter components.

Cobalt Paste is another essential item for building your Ornithopter, as you need 109 units of it. If you’re unsure where to find it, check out the guide I released recently, which covers all the details for locating and gathering cobalt paste.

Armor Plating is relatively easy to find. It’s dropped by enemies such as Heavy Gunners and Flamethrower units, and is also available in many lockers. You’ll likely have a surplus of armor plating by the time you get around to crafting the Ornithopter.

Similarly, complex machinery can be found easily. You need only a few units, and there’s a scavenger base near Anvil where you can find a machine that consistently drops about 14 units of complex machinery per run. One trip should be enough to gather everything you need.

Harder-to-Obtain Components: Industrial Pumps

When it comes to Industrial Pumps, these can be a bit more difficult to locate. They primarily drop in one specific location, making them somewhat scarce. However, once you know where to go, obtaining them isn’t as challenging as it seems.

The key location for Industrial Pumps is Sentinel in the Eastern Shield Wall zone. Sentinel is a massive mountain that towers over the landscape, and even with an Ornithopter, you'll need to manually climb a portion of it due to its height. At the base of this mountain, you’ll find Sentinel City, a large installation located on the southern edge.

Here’s how you can gather the Industrial Pumps:

  • Explore Sentinel City: The chests here often contain Industrial Pumps. However, not every chest will have them, so make sure to loot every chest you can find.

  • Fight Enemies: There are several enemies around, including Flamethrower units, which can be pesky. You may want to take them out before looting.

  • Loot Chests: After defeating enemies, check the chests. You’ll likely find the required number of pumps after looting several of them. On a successful run, I’ve found up to 10 pumps in one visit, though 8 is usually sufficient.

If you don’t get enough from this run or prefer a more peaceful approach, you can always climb further up the mountain for more loot.

Climbing the Mountain for More Pumps

If you’re still in need of more Industrial Pumps or just want a more scenic approach, you can climb the Sentinel Mountain and explore further. While climbing, you can use abilities like Shigawa’s Claw for a boost. This trooper ability allows you to propel yourself along walls, making it easier to access higher areas.

  • Shigawa’s Claw: Activate the claw and use your wings to fly along walls. Be mindful of your positioning and don't push forward too much, or you may get stuck. You can use this method to get to the top of the Sentinel Mountain for more loot.

  • Looting: Along your climb, you’ll find more chests. The mouth of the Sentinel has several chests that could contain Industrial Pumps or other valuable items.

Once at the top, you’ll have access to a fantastic view of the entire Hager Basin, and you’ll be able to loot more chests containing the components you need.

Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps Locations

Next up, we have Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps, two essential materials for crafting your Ornithopter. Fortunately, these items can be found in the same area.

One of the best places to find them is Misa Tyrell, a base located just south of the Udom in the Eastern Shield Wall. The area itself is visually stunning and filled with a variety of loot, though you may have to fight some tough enemies to get to the chests.

When you arrive in Misa Tyrell, you’ll notice a contract on the board for exploring the area. This contract will guide you through the location and provide additional rewards once completed. Be sure to pick it up before you start your exploration.

  • Chests in Misa Tyrell: The chests in this area are somewhat spread out, but several contain Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps. Some chests may also contain Sand Leathers and Steel Suit Tubing.

  • Fighting Enemies: Misa Tyrell is home to several machine gun-wielding enemies and snipers, so make sure to plan your battles carefully. Using poison and long-range attacks can make this much easier.

Best Chests in Misa Tyrell

Within Misa Tyrell, there are a few specific chests you’ll want to focus on:

  • Altar Chest: Right near the altar, you'll find a chest that has a chance to drop Diamondine Dust. I've found up to 10 pieces in a single chest here, which is a great haul.

  • Special Chest: If you head past the altar and go up the stairs, you’ll come across another chest that can drop Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps.

While the loot here can sometimes be a bit random, the chests in this area are well worth looting for the high-value materials they contain.

Special Chest Loot and Story Areas

There’s also a special chest located behind a door in Misa Tyrell that requires a blue key to open. Be sure to grab this key as you go, as it unlocks a large chest with even more valuable items, including a chance at Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps.

Additionally, there are a few story-related areas in Misa Tyrell that you can’t access right away, but once you’ve completed certain missions, you’ll be able to open them for further rewards.

  • Mini Bosses: Some of the tougher enemies in the area, like mini-bosses, will drop Carbide Scraps and Diamondine Dust when defeated.

  • Special Loot: The big chest behind the door has the highest chance to drop valuable schematics, including the Clapper Mark 4 and Spark Sword.

If you're lucky, you’ll also find extra Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps inside this chest, along with some other great loot for future crafting.

Advanced Materials: Rare Components and Sources

As you venture deeper into the game, you'll find yourself needing rare materials for your Ornithopter, such as Titanium Alloy and Processed Gas Filters. These are significantly harder to obtain and are often the bottleneck for players trying to complete their vehicles.

One of the key locations for Titanium Alloy is The Whispering Flats. This region, known for its high radiation levels and harsh conditions, is home to a variety of challenging enemies. You’ll need both skill and strategy to survive while looting the area. The Tunnels of Whispering Flats are scattered with chests that can drop this rare material.

  • Exploring The Whispering Flats: The tunnels are tricky to navigate due to their narrow paths and hidden traps, so make sure you’re prepared with good armor and healing supplies. There are also radiation pockets you’ll need to avoid or mitigate by using specialized equipment.

Titanium Alloy can drop in various forms, so it’s a good idea to focus your efforts on chests and lootable containers that are high in value. Be prepared to spend a bit more time here than in other zones.

Gas Filters and How to Find Them

The Processed Gas Filters are another crucial material. These are needed for a variety of different crafting recipes, including the Ornithopter. You can find them in The Infected Zone near Rava Haven. However, Processed Gas Filters are often dropped by high-level enemies that patrol the area.

  • Fighting Enemies: The area is swarming with toxic enemies, so make sure you have the proper anti-toxin gear to withstand the poisonous gas. There are also hordes of Scorpions that can cause issues when you least expect it, so keep a close eye on your surroundings.

  • Looting Containers: In the lower levels of the area, you’ll find multiple gas containers that drop Processed Gas Filters upon destruction. The containers respawn after a short period, so it’s worth checking back for more loot.

  • Toxic Supply Drops: Occasionally, toxic supply drops will fall in the Infected Zone, and you can loot them for Processed Gas Filters. However, these supply drops are often contested by NPC enemies, so be ready to fight.

The Difficulty of Acid-Virus and Vital Wiring

As you approach the final stages of crafting your Ornithopter, you’ll need materials like Acid-Virus and Vital Wiring, both of which are harder to acquire.

You can find Acid-Virus in The Red Dunes area, a dangerous location filled with biohazards and hostile creatures. While these materials are important for crafting high-end gear, they come with a cost: this zone is notorious for both environmental dangers and powerful enemies. The best strategy for collecting these materials is to approach with caution, moving quickly between cover points while avoiding toxic puddles.

  • Red Dunes Exploration: The Acid-Virus is found in red puddles spread across the desert. These puddles often contain the virus, but stepping into them without proper protection can harm you.

  • Looting Tips: Use advanced suits or resistance gear to traverse this area safely. Also, be on the lookout for chests buried in the sand that often contain Acid-Virus.

Vital Wiring is primarily dropped from Reactor Sites, which are scattered throughout The Red Dunes. These can be accessed through desert tunnels located beneath large dune hills. The sites are filled with dead bodies of engineers who had failed to make it through earlier missions. You can loot these bodies for vital wiring.

Collecting and Crafting with Exotic Materials

Some of the most difficult components to gather are Exotic Materials, which you will need in large quantities to craft high-tier parts for your Ornithopter. These materials include Lightweight Magnesium and Energy Strands, both of which are essential for upgrading the performance of your Ornithopter.

To collect Lightweight Magnesium, you’ll want to head to Sahara Station, located in the Southern region of the Dune. This station is surrounded by a hazardous atmosphere that can easily deplete your health if you’re unprepared. The best strategy is to wait until nightfall when the sandstorms ease up, giving you better visibility and reduced radiation exposure.

  • Sahara Station Looting: At the station, you’ll find Lightweight Magnesium in crates and lootable objects scattered across the area. The crates are mostly locked, so you’ll need a special key or lock-picking ability to open them.

  • Energy Strands in The Ashen Wastes: This area is rich in Energy Strands, but it’s also filled with volatile pockets of sandstorms and aggressive wildlife. You’ll need special suits to protect yourself from the constant sandstorm, but don’t worry, as there’s a high chance of finding the materials you need when you explore deeper into the Ashen Wastes.

How to Maximize Your Loot Efficiency

To make your search for Ornithopter components even more efficient, consider a few tips and tricks that can drastically speed up your collection process.

  • Fast Travel: As soon as you unlock a specific scout station or safe zone, use them as hubs for fast travel. This allows you to avoid wasting too much time on travel, and you can concentrate on looting.

  • Looting Tips: Always make sure to check your inventory and loot filters to ensure you’re collecting only the most valuable items. This will save you time as you don’t need to waste precious space on low-value materials.

  • Speed Runs: Try to do multiple speed runs across areas like The Red Dunes or Whispering Flats where materials like Acid-Virus and Processed Gas Filters drop more frequently. Remember, enemies in these areas respawn, so plan your routes carefully.

Using Your Ornithopter

Once you’ve gathered all the necessary components, it’s time to craft your Ornithopter. But how do you use it effectively once it’s built?

The Ornithopter is an air-based vehicle with the ability to hover over dangerous terrains and move faster than walking. Once crafted, you can use it to access high and remote areas that were once difficult to reach. The wing boosters also allow for high-speed traversal, perfect for dodging enemy attacks or making fast escapes when things go wrong.

  • Flying Techniques: You can adjust your altitude at will, which makes it useful for scouting and evading enemies.

  • Weapon Integration: You can attach light guns and missile launchers to your Ornithopter, enabling you to take out enemies from the sky or use it as a mobile base for quick strikes.

Conclusion

Building and using your Ornithopter in Dune Awakening offers an exciting new way to explore the world and survive in the harsh conditions of Arrakis. While it may take some time to gather all the necessary components, the rewards are well worth it. From rare materials like Titanium Alloy to the more common components like Cobalt Paste, this guide will help you find everything you need.

By exploring key zones like Sentinel, Misa Tyrell, and The Whispering Flats, you’ll be able to gather all the materials required to build and upgrade your Ornithopter. Plus, with tips on fast travel and loot efficiency, you’ll be able to maximize your time and resources.

Good luck in your adventures on Arrakis — your Ornithopter awaits!
