Expedition 33 Secret Bosses: How to Unlock the Best Rewards

Introduction: Why Saving Nevrons Matters

If you’ve been playing Expedition 33, you've probably run into a few strange, unpainted creatures called Nevrons.
At first glance, they might not seem important. But here's the catch: saving these unfinished Nevrons can unlock some of the best rewards in the game — and even boost your Color of Lumina massively if you help at least six of them.

In this guide, we’ll cover:

  • Where to find every unfinished Nevron

  • How to help them properly

  • The amazing rewards you can earn

Let’s jump right into it and get you some top-tier loot!

Finding Jar in Spring Meadows

The first unfinished Nevron you’ll meet is Jar, and you literally can't miss him.
Once you reach the Abandoned Expeditioner’s Camp in the Spring Meadows, a cutscene will automatically introduce you to him.

How to Help Jar:

  • He needs an inflammable material to power a torch.

  • Head to the next blue zone, stick to the right side, and reach the bridge area.

  • Break the crates and barrels nearby to find resin.

  • Bring the resin back and shoot his storage once to ignite it.

Reward for Helping Jar:

  • You’ll receive a Healing Tint, very handy for early healing.

  • Important tip: Do not attack Jar — keeping him alive is crucial for earning a huge Lumina bonus later.

Helping the Mining Nevron in Flying Waters

Next up, you’ll find a mining Nevron hidden inside a jar in the Flying Waters zone.

Steps to Assist:

  • Move past No Hunt early in the map.

  • Look for a jar you can step inside — it leads to the Mining Nevron.

  • He needs his lost mine.

Finding the Mine:

  • To the right, use platforms to reach a hidden cavern.

  • Search the cavern to locate the missing mine.

Reward:

  • Return the mine to receive the Daminarium weapon for Lun.

  • It’s a strong lightning-elemental weapon with excellent luck scaling, perfect for mid-game builds.

Important Advice:
Hold off on fighting this Nevron. Sparing him now is worth much more in the long run.

Helping the Small Virgin Nevron Near Ancient Sanctuary

The third unfinished Nevron is found at the Small Virgin Cave, southwest of the Ancient Sanctuary.

What You Need To Do:

  • Head to the cave and talk to the smaller Virgin-like Nevron.

  • He asks for a special skin item.

Where to Find the Skin:

  • Go back to Map 2 (Flying Waters).

  • On your way to Lumiere Streets, look for some seaweed to your right.

  • There’s a hidden path leading to a Tall Virgin boss fight.

Reward After Helping:

  • Defeating the Tall Virgin grants you the Virgin Skin.

  • Bring it back to the small Nevron.

  • After a short rest (you may need to reset by exiting the map), he evolves into a bigger version.

  • Initial reward: A small Color of Lumina boost.

Optional Fight:

  • If you later choose to fight the evolved Virgin, you’ll earn:

    • 5x Color of Lumina

    • Polished Chroma Catalyst (great for upgrading weapons up to Level 9)

Tip: It’s smarter to wait before attacking if you aim for the full Lumina reward later.

Freeing Hexga at Stone Wave Cliffs

Nevron number four is Hexga, located at the Stone Wave Cliffs, right before reaching Tide Caverns.

Helping Hexga:

  • You'll find him stuck in the ground.

  • He needs three Rock Crystals.

Finding the Crystals:

  • First Crystal: Near the top-side flag, destroy the crystal right in front.

  • Second Crystal: Head past the collapsed building and get ambushed by a crystal enemy. Defeat it.

  • Third Crystal: Backtrack slightly, head left, and find another breakable crystal.

Reward for Saving Hexga:

  • After handing over all three crystals, Hexga emerges and reveals a hidden PictosAuto Shell.

  • Auto Shell automatically applies a protective buff for three turns at battle start, making it one of the best defensive tools in Expedition 33.

Training the Trouador at Stone Quarry

Your fifth unfinished Nevron is at the Stone Quarry, just south of the beach, near the Frozen Mountain Peaks.

Challenge:

  • Talk to the Trouador.

  • Teach them how to sing by parrying attacks and absorbing healing bubbles.

Pro Tip:

  • Always let the green healing bubbles hit you, but parry everything else.

Reward:

  • Gain the Healing Parry Pictos, boosting your health recovery by 3% every time you successfully parry.

  • Adds solid health and defense stats as well.

Completing the Puzzle at Esoteric Ruins

The sixth Nevron is located inside the Esoteric Ruins, near the Lumiere areas.
Good news: no combat is involved here!

What to Do:

  • Once you enter the main arena, you’ll meet a ghostly figure needing something nearby.

  • Solve a labyrinth puzzle using the platforms and pedestals.

Tips for the Puzzle:

  • There’s no trick or shortcut — you’ll need to use trial and error to navigate to the far end.

Finding the Required Item:

  • Once you finish the labyrinth, grab a special wood board near the collapsed structures.

  • Bring it back to the Nevron.

Reward:

  • You’ll earn the Protecting Heal Pictos.

  • This gives a healing + shell effect when you heal an ally, perfect for building tanky or support characters.

Unlocking the Huge Lumina Bonus

If you have spared all six Nevrons so far, it’s time to grab one of the biggest bonuses in Expedition 33.

How to Claim It:

  • Head back to the starting area of the continent.

  • Look for the Fountain area — you’ll need Squa’s flight ability to access it.

  • Talk to Blanch at the fountain.

Reward:

  • 100 Color of Lumina awarded instantly!

Why It’s Huge:

  • This massive Lumina boost lets you activate multiple Pictos and heavily strengthen any build.

  • It’s one of the biggest power spikes you can get before endgame content.

Important:
You can also challenge Blanch to a duel later, but don't do it unless you're at least Level 50–60.
Blanch is extremely strong.

Bonus Nevrons: Even More Rewards

If you want to push further, there are two additional unfinished Nevrons to discover.
Let's cover them!

Charlie A at the Floating Cemetery

You’ll find Charlie A northwest on a floating island at the Floating Cemetery.

Access Requirements:

  • You must have flight unlocked.

Steps:

  • Approach the corpse pile and initiate a conversation with Charlie.

  • Choose any weapon — it doesn’t affect the outcome.

Fight:

  • Progress into the building and defeat Charlie.

Reward:

  • Unlock the Longer Shell Pictos.

  • It extends Shell effects by two extra turns, giving you more durability in fights.

The Dancer at Frozen Hearts

The ninth and final unfinished Nevron is found at Frozen Hearts, inside the Frozen Mountain area.

How to Find It:

  • Progress through the map until you reach Glacial Falls.

  • Rest at the nearby flag.

  • Then backtrack slightly toward a double staircase leading up to a train platform.

Meeting the Dancer:

  • You'll spot the Dancer Nevron with three followers.

  • There are two parts to this encounter.

First Challenge:

  • Similar to the Trouador, you’ll need to perfectly parry a full sequence of attacks.

  • Missing a few doesn't matter — just complete one full parry sequence.

Reward:

  • Unlock a special costume for Lun, called the Dancuous Armor.

  • It mirrors the stylish theme of the Dancer boss!

Optional Final Dance Battle

If you want even more rewards, you can challenge the Dancer to a final duel.

The Fight:

  • The Dancer and a summon ally will attack together.

  • They alternate between fire and ice elements.

  • Important:

    • Be careful not to heal them accidentally by using the wrong elements.

    • Use your gradient dodge when they leap for big attacks.

Rewards for Winning:

  • Depending on your RNG, you could earn:

    • Augmented Counter 3 Pictos (boosts counterattack damage by 75%)

    • Or sometimes Burning Death Pictos (and possibly others).

Note:
Rewards seem to vary depending on what Pictos you already have.

Checking Back at the Fountain

After completing everything, you can return to the Fountain to check in with Blanch again.
Unfortunately, helping these two extra Nevrons does not give any new rewards beyond the original 100 Color of Lumina boost.

But trust me — the buffs and Pictos you gain along the way make the entire journey more than worth it!

Conclusion: Why Saving Nevrons Is a Game-Changer

Helping and sparing unfinished Nevrons in Expedition 33 isn’t just for side storylines — it’s one of the smartest ways to boost your character’s power.

To recap:

  • Save at least six Nevrons to unlock the 100 Color of Lumina bonus.

  • Earn powerful Pictos and gear that make mid-to-late game easier.

  • Avoid unnecessary fights early on for maximum rewards later.

If you’re aiming for the strongest possible build before tackling endgame bosses, this is the route you definitely want to take.
